Two Decades of Fergie

And so we note the passage of twenty years of managerial wit and wisdom from Sir Alex Ferguson, noted Clydeside socialist with a taste for race horses and expensive red wine. Can I admit that I actually rather like Ferguson? He reminds me of my grandfather —  not known for his leftist views or interest in red wine, prone to betting on horses rather than owning them, but certainly Scottish and combative. The Premiership will be a much duller place when Ferguson finally gives up or is wheeled out.

The Guardian’s Fiver today published a sampling of Ferguson’s more, ah, pithy utterances; my favorite remains:

“Football. Bloody hell” – lost for words after the Treble victory in 1999.
